Design Exercise

A re-design of the Tampa Bay Super Bowl Host Committee site

In 2008, the Tampa Bay Super Bowl Host Committee asked TBO.com to design and produce their website. As Creative Services Team Leader, I was given the task.

As you can see from the screen-cap, the site reflected the design and code conventions at the time. The navigation was a pretty complex combination of sprite images, CSS and HTML. The layout also shows we were still restricted to the 990 pixel page width since wide-screen monitors were rare. Lastly, responsive design wasn't a requirement and that is reflected in the pixel-perfect layout.

As a design exercise, I decided to see what I could come up with given all of the advances made in HTML and CSS. The new site is cleaner, easier to read and navigate.
